In which I actually manage to update my blog...

Since my last update, I've moved back to school and started classes -- for this January session, I'm taking Racquetball and History of the Holocaust. I'm liking them both well enough, but racquetball is making my right shoulder hurt a lot. I've also been knitting (huzzah!).

I finished the fingerless gloves I was making for my roommate... she hasn't taken them off in my presence long enough for me to take a picture of both of them finished, but here's one of them, modeled by my sister. I've also finished and felted the long-promised slippers I was working on for my partner... some weirdness ensued, but they're much loved anyways. A photo:

As far as WIPs are concerned, I have two main ones on the needles at the moment. I'm slowly but surely making progress on the Robomitts... I've knit the cuff and am partway through the first repeat... if you look closely, you can see little robot legs. :-D

I also rediscovered a partially-knit sock using some Regia in one of the Kaffe Fassett colorways (Landscape Fog) yesterday and decided to take it to my Holocaust class today -- in about two hours, I got the leg finished (at the beginning of class, I was mostly done with the broad blue stripe). Now I'm trying to decide which heel to use -- I'm thinking either garter short row or fleegle. I'd rather not do a flap construction, though. Not a huge fan of picking up stitches.

As far as future knitting projects are concerned, my next projects are going to be a swatch hat for my upcoming Owls (Rav link) sweater and a Daybreak scarf in some KnitPicks sock yarn and Noro Kureyon sock, as depicted below:

Well, I'd say that's all for now, especially because I'm hungry and the pizza won't be here for, like, 40 minutes.

Another year, another blog...

Or something. So, some brief introduction, I guess. I'm Ellen... twenty, senior in college studying history and sociology with a gender studies minor. I've been knitting for almost six years (self-taught) and crocheting for about a week. My other hobbies include tech theatre (also my job) and photography. (For those interested, I have a Nikon D70 and a couple of lenses. Most of the shots you'll see here will be taken with a 50mm f/1.8. I'm kind of a nerd, so I'll probably include information about f-stop, shutter speed, et cetera whenever I post photos.)

I've never really been a person for the whole "new year's resolution" thing, but there are a few things I'm going for this year. Most of them, though, are admittedly pretty pragmatic: I should actually finish things I knit, and I need to cut down on my stash... especially because I'm going to be going abroad for an extended period of time at some point this summer. So I've spent a few days of my Christmas break going through my queue, tagging everything in it, and cutting down on some of the projects in it... although I'm still at 547 patterns. I've also been matching yarn I have to patterns, and sometimes to recipients (although a lot of times the recipient is me!).

So... my knitting plans for 2010. Finish up the stuff that's on the needles, but I have a few new projects planned in the near future. The one I'm most excited about is my NaKniMitMo project: spillyjane's ROBOMITTS (Rav link). I'm doing them in some Regia Silk I picked up in Germany sometime in late 2005 or early 2006. And so this post isn't just wordswordswords:

The latest addition to my stash was a gift from my dear friend Knitguy: some gorgeous yarn from A Verb for Keeping Warm. It's Annapurna, a sport weight Merino/Cashmere/Nylon blend in the No. 9 colorway... a blend of blues and purples. I'm tentatively planning to do the Seeta Fingerless Gloves with it, but that might change.

Yay! That seems sufficient for a first post, especially since I don't know if anyone will actually read this... ;-)
